British Garden

British garden is famous among gardeners in the world.
To be honest,I prefer a garden which is looked after a little to it which is taken care of very much.
garden2.jpg
What I would like to show you today is a beautiful garden but it is not actually garden, it is a building decorated pretty plants.
When I went for walks neighbourhoods, I found it.
There are some colours and vivid plants which grow up along a traditional building.
I am stimulated by this contrast.
I will try to make a wonderful garden like this when I back to Japan.

I am pleased with British climate.
Thanks to this, there are a lot of edible plants in my garden of Manchester.
At first, I did not realised the advantage of it.
however I am no doubt the environment of Manchester produces good quality of plants and flowers.
Now I have some edible plants and medical plants in my garden.
Rose hips.jpg
・Nettle
・Calystegia
・Ramsons
・Feverfew
Apple tree
Rose hips
・Raspberry

I love my garden because of these, as you can understand it obviously.
Look at the photo of Rose hips in my garden.
It is beautiful, isn't it.
I have loved plants and flowers since I was younger.
So I am grateful because British nature like this surrounds me in Manchester.

Manchester bottle

Do you remember the Tap water campaign?
I still remember it and I continue to have tap water instead of buying bottles.
Of course, I have got a biodegradable water bottle in city centre.
It is cool!
The design of bottles is simple and typed M.E.N logo.
Yes, I will use the reusable bottle to contain tap water and bring where I am.
I hope that this action will be advantage for our earth and contributed to reduce wasted bottle.

My friend of Stinging nettle

I did not know that Stinging nettle is one of herb and it has medical effect for many king of allergy.
Actually I have some allergy for example pollen and sulphur.

In addition, there are many ways to cook them so that we can eat and drink.

Stinging nettle is no longer my enemy; they are good plant for me.
Today, I boiled and ate them with soy souse.
The taste is similar to leaves of pumpkin.

My enemy of Stinging nettle

There are many stinging nettles in my garden.
I do not like them because they sometimes hurt me.
Whenever I touch them by chance, I feel strong pain and my skin become red.
So I tried to rid them of my garden and cut them like a murder however some of them dropped on my hand by accident then I screamed up with pain.
After all day, my fingers and hand were numbed.

I can not imagine that there is competition of eating Stinging nettles in the UK.
But I heard the competition from some people.
Is this true?

First aid

I popped in a First aid training by British Red Cross.
When I walked on Oxford street in Manchester, a staff recommended me attending the training by chance.

I learned how to resuscitate unconscious people by road accident.
Especially, I studied about how I make sure he/she is unconsciousness, when I should start cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and how I do this more effectively.
This training was lasted for just only 5-10 minutes, but I think myself that I can help people in the case of road accidents.

Teachers' strike

USU strik2.jpgBecause of teachers' strike, my school has been partly closed.

I met my tutors at entrance of the school in this morning.
They held a plate written something which I do not remember, but it may be indicated that rising payment or something like that.
UCU strik1.jpg
Today they gave me a pretty rounded sticker instead of teaching us.
The sticker says “I support my lecturers” and I put it on my cloth.

I know they work very hard.
Especially my tutor comes to the school in the early morning to check e-mail and prepare classes.

By the way, what UCU stand for?

St George's Day

According to calendars, today is St George's day that is England's national day however it seems nothing happen.
When I go out, I just see some flags, in another ward St.George's Cross, on some pubs or church.
Also I see red roses which put on people's chest.

I like a story of Saint George's life and legend.
He attacked Dragon and saved princess's life.

As well as this,
I like any story about hero.
I am currently reading "OO7" which is a modan hero story when compering to Saint George in long long times ago.

More about Saint George is following wed site

water revolution

C_71_article_1045655_image_list_image_list_item_0_image.jpgIt is true that we waste millions plastic bottles in each day (Crook & McCathie 2008), therefore I am strongly agree with "tap water revolution" and "tap water campaign" in Manchester.
We need reduce rubbish (Crook 2008) and drink tap water instead of bottled water.
Also some people often say that tap water in Manchester is better taste than it of South England.
So it is a good idea of drinking tap water if you live in Manchester.

Additionally, there are many advantages of agreement with the campaign.
Firstly, this is an action of ecology-life.
Secondly, this may seem one of sophisticated life which called Lifestyles Of Health And Sustainability(LOHAS).
Finally, this will reduce cost of Shopping in another ward saving money.

As well as that, drinking water is good for our health and beauty.
So I will drink tap water in Manchester.
It should be tasty.

eco-friendly

untitled.bmpAccording to mail news of Manchester Libraries,
there are eco-friendly jute book bags sold by Just £2.50.
I really want one because it is not only stylish but also an eco-friendly bag.
If you would like to know about it more, please visit the wed site here
http://www.manchester.gov.uk/site/scripts/download_info.php?downloadID=30&fileID=5876

Anyway,
the item of ecology is a good idea in many ways.
Firstly, this is one of strategy to make people eco awareness.
Another idea is that it may be business opportunity to sell this sort of things.
"I'm not a plastic bag" by Anya Hindmarch is a good example, isn't it?
My friends in Japan wanted the bag but it was already sold out, so many people who were desperate did not get it at all.

"eco-friendly jute book bags" produced by Manchester Library is neither famous bag or bland one, however they are based on local Manchester and an idea of ecology of the world. I like them, of course.

Libraries in Manchester

There are many Libraries in Manchester.
Some of them are listed in the most beautiful library in the world.

As you can see here
http://curiousexpeditions.org/?p=78

That is fantastic, isn't it.

There are three Libraries near my flat.
(1) the John Rylands Library, Deansgate
(2) the John Rylands University Library
(3) Manchester City Library

Recently, I went to the John Rylands University Library to read books and check some litterateurs.
The place there is very nice because Librarians are kind and quaiet place to read books.

Also I am interested in the John Rylands Library, Deansgate.
The Library is under the contraction and has been invested 17 million pounds to be renewed.

Also you can see here

I did not visit the John Rylands Library yet.
However I would like to visit in near future.

Battery

My wrist watch had not been worked since last month.
I was used to go to watch shop to change battery when I lived in Japan.
However I have no idea what I should do in the UK.
I went to some shops to ask if they can change battery of my watch.
Unfortunately, I could not find a proper shop.
Also I was not sure how much it costs.
In Japan, it costs between 4-5 pounds per each change.

Today, I asked a worker who came to my flat to fix something.
He is very kind man.
He brought batteries and changed old it to new.
One of Amazing things is the batteries which are more than 10 cost only 2 pound.
Another amazing is to change battery is not so difficult.
I thought that only trained person can change battery of wrist watch.

Next time, I will change battery by myself.
It is really good idea, isn't it.

Collecting Perfume

One of my favourite things is to collect bottles of Perfume.
I like Fragrance which make me something special, also it changes easily atomospher to more comfortable.

This is a list of my favourite things.
* Aromatics Elixir by Clinique
* Happy by Clinique
* Baby Doll by Yves Saint-Laurent
* Green tea by Elizabeth Arden
* Light blue by Dolce & Gabbana
* Tobacco Flower by The Body Shop

This last thing which I mentioned is fantastic scent despite coming from Tobacco.
It is amazing but it is true, I love it "Tobacco Flower Fragrance".
I completely dislike cigarettes because smell is terrible smokey and it should cause many disease.
However the flowers are completely opposite, it's scent is nearly fairy tale and princess story.
Of course, the bottle of design is perfectly elegant.

Our earth

According to "Astrophysics"(http://uk.arxiv.org/),
our earth will be disappear after 7600 billion years.
When I imagine this terrible things, I am shivering with fear.
They say that the sun will become bigger and bigger and burn the earth, as a result, there will be nothing at all.

I cannot imagine the earth will be dead but many scientists say this is true, so I understand them but it is still difficult to imagine because of too sad.

Nonetheless, there are two things of avoiding this sadness, they say.

Hard Life

Life is hard.
This ward was often said by my English teacher when I studied in Sunderland.
I like this word but I am not good at my hard life.
Sometimes I say to my husband that I am very tired of my life.
However he always laughs at me because I am silly.
I know there are more hard life than me in the world.
For example, Charles Dickens had harder life experiences. When he was a child he had to work hard in farm and prison because of his farther.
On the other hand,
I also know the life is wonderful.

The University of Manchester

I visited to the University of Manchester in order to have a chat with a person who works there.
I like this university because atmosphere is really academic and there are many experts to research.
Of course, the person whom I met today is wonderful.
He talks friendly.
Also he was so kind as giving me useful information to make a research proposal.

So I have to write a research proposal.
It sounds strict, however this is the most important part of PhD student.

Any way,
I would like to walk around Manchester University as well.
Design of university is wonderful.
